Could someone confirm whether it is even possible to add people using the JPN version? I found a batch of codes on a Japanese site, but I'm thinking they might be from Wild World. Also, even more DLC has been released today.

Yes, it works great.
In AC:CF friend codes are universal (unlike AC:WW). You can visit Japanese towns and they can visit yours (BTW: when they visit your English town, they will see everything in Japanese).

If you mean friend-codes, they won't help unless the other person adds you as well. If the Register New Friend rejects the FC, then it is probably an old AC:WW FC (doubly useless to you)

As mentioned, they are already in the game (not "DLC"), but are country specific for non-hackers

For people with WiiBrew, create them like other items (ACToolkit, under Furniture/OtherSets1) or text-to-item runtime code.

IMHO: the item is pretty lame, not worth too much hassle.
