I agree. I've seen sites where a certain amount of posts are required to view a forum (I guess, in this case, if we did this, it would be the "Releases" sub-forums.)
Although this might be worse because we may just get useless spammy posts just to be able to view the section...
Just an idea, but i don't think we should do it. Then why did i say it? hmm....
