re: Bitmap problems.
If anyone else is having problems, try opening one of the .BMP files in PBrush/MSPaint, then immediately select 'File'/'Save As'. Check that the "Save as type" is set to "16 Color Bitmap (*.bmp, *.dib)". Hit "Cancel".
In general try not to use "Save As". Use regular "File"/"Save" (or ALT-F4 + spacebar for fast keyboard exit).

Great! But I noticed that you can't change the names of the characters in other languages! For example I changed Static's name, but in my Italian game his name is still "Protone" (his default Italian name).
Is changing shirts going to be released in the next version? My villagers would look better with matching uniforms...

Canned shirts for sure (one of 346), and umbrellas (one of 34).
Not sure if I'll add limited BMP editing for custom patterns.
BTW: We need a more general 'pattern editor' for all the patterns.

This is minor, but you set the default file to open (like when you click on the exe) to nvforest.dat, not rvforest.dat
