Weird. The tans did not seem to work for me during winter. Thanks for pointing out that they do.

Although, I don't know the exact reason, but it froze when I entered my gate W/ the tan, but it let me in W/O the tan...

It was under the same conditions, only one with tan, one without,

No, the game will not freeze. I've have both in my town for a while now and it runs fine.
