ASM Text to Item. It's here.

Just thought I'd let everybody know that the text to item code we discussed at HW has finally been created. Thanks to Virus, you can use his latest code to type the hex of an item into the in-game chat, activate the code, and get the item in your inventory!

Specific instructions:
1) Type the item hex into the chat menu in ACWW. If the hex has letters, type them in lower-case.
2) Enter the text. This will make your character say it in-game but it is also saving it in the game code as it is said.
3) Press Start+Select
4) Check your inventory! The item should appear in slot 1.

Simple enough. This code is revolutionary for AC:WW.

Yes, it can. But he would need someone to test it.

As long as the testing wouldn't ruin my game card I'd give it a go :)

I will be posting an updated version of my ASM text to item code sometime tomorrow. This new version will be smaller and will hopefully fix a bug that was occuring on some games. The new version would not be possible without Toenailed.

Until tomorrow, I will be removing the current code from the topics.

I hate to be annoying but is there a way you could change the trigger? Start+Select kinda sucks, cuz it exits the menu and then you just have to bring it up again.. unless of course you have to exit and reopen the menu for the item to show up...

How much can I seed my town (no buildings, only trees and flowers .. but a LOT of flowers) before I chance bricking my game?

I added the code for v1.0 (yes v1.0 and I HAVE v1.0) and I looked over the code about 5 times and it's right. Well, every time I do the code, and I type in like... a code for like gold roses (yes I type in the right code for that) and I submit it, and I press Start+Select but my game freezes!!!

I don't know why.. YES I AM fallowing the directions right! XD lol

i really can't directly help you but i knew, maybe few, that uses the code and can confirm that it works and doesn't freeze their game, unless you are using a flashcart(R4, supercard,M3,etc..) or your ARDS firmware is below 1.54, i can't think of any reason why it freezes .. :) .. (incorrect input will only give weird item for example using "001C" instead of "001c" will give a different item but it won't freeze the game)

I have posted V3 of the text to item code for U 1.0. I post V3 for the other versions of AC:WW as soon as I can get testers.

Changes:
-Works with any character.
-Works online at any town.

does the ASM text to item code work online ein other friends towns?

Version 3 does but unfortunately it hasn't been ported to 1.1 or EU yet. For those of you with 1.1 and EU, you're stuck with v2 which only works in your town.

Any idea for a workaround for the flashcart freezing issue?

You'd have to redo the code, as it uses an ar ds ASM hook.

It's not going to work on a flashcart unless it supports Kenobi's AR hack that allows you to execute a custom ASM routine. Toenailed has been working on a program that will allow you to patch roms with ARDS cheat codes. I have tested it on an AC:WW rom using my CycloDS Evolution and it worked great. You should be able to use the program once it is released to the public.
