Just got a small play time today, so I tried to edit the master sword model, and now it has the tip that perhaps everyone is looking for (as a potential candidate for HDLC).

Yeah, the pictures somehow like that grainy nowadays for me (perhaps since I recently use widescreen option in Wii).

polygon editing is painful... The tools are primitive.

The JPG capture is convenient, but it can look weird (especially wide screen)
If you have a USB Gecko you can get a true color .BMP capture. But the furniture items don't look as good when turned into tools/weapons because they are drawn at many angles (regular furniture only has 4 orientations)
Best of all, post the raw data so anyone can play with it

The Master Sword has always been the #1 candidate for HDLC. You fixed the first problem.
The other problem with the Master Sword model is it is way too big.
Your modified version is the same as the regular version, 27KB for the .BRRES.
It needs to be around 1/2 that size. Most of the size is in the 3D model (about 20KB)
If you can find a polygon reduction tool, try reducing the handle/hilt (1st polygon, polygon0).
The handle/hilt is overly elaborate. Most of the size of the .BRRES is in the handle/hilt.
If it can be simplified, hopefully we don't need to simplify the blade (which is relatively small and looks cool)

DSpet, in ItemTool and LMT, can I do actual physical 3d editing, like being able to make my own different 3d dlc tools, or not?

ItemTool is for editing texture bitmaps.
LMT is for editing 3D models.
But I intentionally named it LAME-Model-Tool for a reason. You can tweek existing models with many restrictions. It is not a general purpose 3D modeling tool.
I tried with a general 3D modelling tool, but it failed.
There is a different program used for tweeking 3D models called "SZS Modifier" originally designed for Mario Kart (http://chadderz.is-a-geek.com/wiicoder )
It is also tricky to use, and has a different set of restrictions. Please don't ask me how to use it (not my program). If interested, please try it. And if it works for you please post the resulting .BRES file.
Testing on a WiiBrew Wii is recommended.

If you were to add in support to export/import the models as a generic model format that a multitude of 3D programs can handle, it'd make creating good HDLC easier, as well as being a lot less complex than writing your own general 3D modeling tool. Though this has probably been suggested before, I missed the reason(s) of the why it couldn't/wouldn't be done.
