The last one... ;)

Something weird just happened in my town :D I have changed all the villager prototypes in my town, but it seems the game doesn't "register" (or something like that) the change completely. One of my villagers moved out a few days ago, and her replacement is Filbert, which I already have in my town. It's not that big of a deal since I can easily change him to someone else, but maybe this kind of thing can be avoided with the future versions? (I'm using .4b) :)
> One of my villagers moved out a few days ago, and her replacement is Filbert, which I already have in my town.
If you have a gamesave (WiiBrew extract) shortly after the new NPC moved in, please email it to me.
The villager moving logic is not well understood.
BTW: There are many possible bytes to change. The gamesave tools only touch those that are (reasonably) well understood. If you don't understand it, it is better to leave it alone.
----
related discussion: what is the house style used for NPC villagers
When changing the NPC character type ("prototype"), most of the data is copied from game data defaults. There are some extra bytes at the end that are left alone. They will be unchanged from the original NPC character.
I suspect that includes the house style. There are at least 2 different house styles. There is another global setting. Also there are region specific differences (different models and textures depending on region).
Also not well understood.
If you have a USB Gecko and are interested in poking around in memory to find interesting memory locations, please send me an email.
(finding the in-memory or gamesave locations is the hard part - adding a UI to tweek the options it is easy, once they are understood)
Would there ever be an option available to add more neighbors than the default 10, or if at all possible?
nevermind, I went back through the thread, sorry!
Ack, sorry, the only backup of that town is several days after Filbert moved in, and I had already changed him :(
...
For what it's worth, while I was restarting I noticed each character always had the same house shape in the new village - for example Eloise, Blaire, Bob, Pekoe and Del had round roofs, Olivia, Cube, Anabelle and Carmen had the plain box houses, while Sally, Chief, Al and Bunnie had the "large" looking houses with just the front door. And so on :)
i need a mirror to the download
Link on the main page for the editor is not working...could someone please post it in here...
Thanks!!!
> Link on the main page for the editor is not working...
Please try again (http://www.aibohack.com/wii/npc_tool_4b.zip )
I have 2 questions about the animals using the editor...
- You can edit up to 20, does that mean you can have 20 animals at once in your town?
- Can this program be used to create and edit tiles as well, if not what can be used to create and edit tiles and what size are the tiles if you can make them?
Thanks:
Scott
Ok, so when you say that they moved out...can't you simply edit it and have new ones in? What about the tiles that you can put on the ground...can you use PAINT or a BMP editor and edit or create your own?
I have decided to try this out. I was able to do an edit on 2 villagers in my town that were downloaded from the npc sharing thread. No errors occurred but whenever i load it after installing back on the Wii, I get a data corrupt message. I am able to open the rvforest.dat file in npc_tool and AC_Toolkit with no problem. The file itself isn't bad. Is there maybe something I missed that is causing the game to not recognize the save? Thanks for any help.
Hey DsPet could you add all the dlc and hdlc to the npc tool so we can put the items in the animals houses or the even have the animal carry the ghost umbrella?
maybe even add the feature like actoolkit has (it reconizes any new dlc) that would be cool.
thanks let me know if this is possible.
I sold one to Hamtaro and he showed it in his house. YAY!

Can someone help. I dont get how to download the DLC's people have already made.
I meant NPC XD
I only have one problem, if you change NPC to Al the gorilla you can't keep that name as it is too short. D:
> I only have one problem, if you change NPC to Al the gorilla you can't keep that name as it is too short. D:
It is overly anal - try "AI " (extra space at the end)
I can't find the NPC tool... is it because i have the latest version?
Question DsPet. Ever since my last neighbor moved out, I cant remember if it was an edit or not or if that even matters, i've been stuck with 9 neighbors. I've only visited a couple of towns since then so im not sure if that has anything to do with it. Or is NPC tool capable of making a save so that I cannot get new neighbors? Or is getting new neighbors required to visit towns over wifi over and over until a new one moves in?
Edit: I think I may have solved the problem but havent tested it yet. I loaded my save with the ACToolkit and rememberd that I deleted all of the signs in the town. Well if I remember correctly a neighbor always moved it where a sign was placed. Since I deleted all the signs there was nowhere for the game to place the new house. I could be way off though.
Yeah, if there is no sign, there is no place for a new house to go. You'll need to put a sign back somewhere in town where you want the new neighbor to live.
My Champ got messed up somehow, and now hes weird colored. Could someone PM me his original BMP or w/e? I havnt played or used this in a while and my sister started complaining. She doesnt know how to hack nor will she try. Please and thankyou.
I cant import anything... it keeps saying missing or bad GBADecmp.dll if I edit anything! D= I dont use File/save as, only File/Save. anyway to fix this?
re download the npc tool
Here Ben try this one, It should work.
Just click on the download under my text. xD
You have to unarchive it first
Hi everyone, I have 9 alive villagers and one frozen (trying to move out of the city). Is there any way to prevent him from moving changing his frozen status to alive or do I have to wait for the new villager to come to the village (alive status) to edit it for the one I don't want to loose? Thanks for your time.
I was wondering, is it possible to edit what nickname the villagers choose for you? I know it's not in the tool, I just thought that it might be interesting to see if you could or couldn't.
> I was wondering, is it possible to edit what nickname the villagers choose for you?
Possible yes.
It is part of the relation database. Each NPC keeps a small database of HUMAN players it has talked to and some stats, including the nickname. This applies to all players (local as well as visitors).
A similar feature is in the AC:WW Map Editor, but it was very obscure.
Don't expect it to be added to NPC_Tool (unless you want to add it ;-)
If really important: Do it with binary editing of the UNICODE strings in the game. You should be able to find the old names and change them. Then run it through ACToolkit to patch up the checksums.
is it possible to change things like how often they ask you to do a job? compared to the origional animal crossing, cityfolk is really bad about things like this...
First off, what a spectacular and innovative program. My props to DsPet. I'm very impressed and will definately try it sometime soon. What a miracle that textures happen to be store in the game save! This is extremely cool.
1. I read the whole thread but this question doesn't seem to be answered. Does anyone know what will happen?Quote:
I'm also wondering, if you changed an NPC for your save file, is that change permanent? What I mean is, I changed Pierce's texture and then he moves out. When I get another Pierce, will he keep the changed settings or will he have his original?
2. Does changing the name effectively change all instances of the villager's name, for example sending a letter?
3. Will the character "remember" you if you edit them using this program?
Thanks a TON.
Some old and new Qs:
> is it possible to change things like how often they ask you to do a job? compared to the origional animal crossing, cityfolk is really bad about things like this...
I don't think so. You can change the currently active jobs (but that is tricky)
> I'm also wondering, if you changed an NPC for your save file, is that change permanent? What I mean is, I changed Pierce's texture and then he moves out. When I get another Pierce, will he keep the changed settings or will he have his original?
Not permanent. The changes are for that one NPC only. If it moves away he/she will take his settings and textures with him/her. If you get another Pierce later it will be the default game one.
(BTW: it is possible to have more than one NPC with the same 'prototype' - eg: Bob1, Bob2 which are both based off the Bob template can live in the same town with different textures, names and attributes; the customized name is used not the template name)
> Does changing the name effectively change all instances of the villager's name, for example sending a letter?
Yes. The customized name (eg: Bob1) is used not the template name. Any new letters sent will use the new name. Old letters will not be changed (in mailbox or archived at the post office); the NPC customized name is from the time the letter was written.
> Will the character "remember" you if you edit them using this program?
Yes. It is part of the relation database. Each NPC keeps a small database of HUMAN players it has talked to and some stats, including the nickname. This applies to all players (local as well as visitors).
NPC_Tool does not edit this data.
So if you build up a relationship with your custom NPC, and it moves to another town, you can go visit him/her and he/she should remember you. This is a normal NPC feature (ie. custom NPCs act the same, they just may look different)
There is one thing I don't get....Where can I find the textures? There's no sub-folders....
Do I get it here: http://aibohack.com/wii/accf_npctex.htm ?
Edit: Nevermind, I got it! :D
Has anyone been working on a feature to change the textures of the villager houses? I read a few posts on here but it doesn't seem like anyone has released any info on the progress thus far.
Just a thought if you want to pursue this:
Perhaps you could try see whether you could use Riivolution for changing the villager houses textures on the fly...
Hmm I've never heard of this app. I'll do some digging thanks for the suggestion!
I am currently using Mac OS X and I have everything working including this NPC tool, but I cannot change the texture because I do not have paint. Is there any way to edit the .bmp files in Photoshop CS3 without getting an error? If anyone has a solution I would be most grateful. Maybe an update that makes it so it is not so picky about the .bmp file?
